Maths Regional Conferences
The
Mathematical Association and Association of Teachers of Mathematics
have jointly designed a one-day event for secondary Mathematics
advisors, Consultants and Advanced Skills Teachers to provide a
hands-on introduction to both the Bowland lesson resources and the
accompanying professional development materials for key stage 3
mathematics teachers.
These
will be held in each of the nine regions - to

will be held this year on Saturday 20th September 2008. The event
regularly attracts over 220 delegates and is always oversubscribed,
so you are recommended to register and pay early.

SmartBoard
interactive whiteboard training
A one-day
professional development course has also been developed by MA colleagues
for developing pedagogy using the SmartBoard and full details can be
found on the
Steljes website.
It
is also possible to book one-day events in school to enable the
whole mathematics department to benefit from the training.

The
MA Secondary Mathematics Conference
Friday 22nd February 2008, York
This
regional event, held with support from the NCETM and STEMNET in
Yorkshire and Humberside attracted over 90 delegates who took part
in a wide range of talks, presentations and workshops. Delegate
feedback from the day, both informal and via the evaluation forms,
was hugely positive, with responses such as the best part of the
day was
"
bouncing ideas off inspired/inspiring
individuals" and "
the opportunity to meet with and
share ideas about teaching practices".
The opening plenary talk was given by Rob Eastaway and Tom Roper
gave the closing plenary talk. Our thanks go to Mary Ledwick and
Tony Shepherd for organising the event and to each of the 15 presenters/workshop
leaders for making the event such a success. We are already exploring
the possibility of holding a similar event in 2009.
Teaching Mathematics with ICT
The Mathematical Association
works jointly with the Association of Teachers of Mathematics to
provide professional development resources to support teachers'
