Guidance to Pupils / Parents / Teachers on using Primary Maths Problems On Line

Pupils can try Primary Maths Problems On Line for a number of reasons:

Level of Difficulty

These problems are provided for fun and to motivate. Pupils should not be asked to attempt problems that they cannot do! That could put them off maths for life!

Please be aware of level of difficulty of the puzzling and very challenging problems. Pupils should all start with the easy and harder problems. The 'very challenging' problems and very difficult and will challenge the brightest and most confident of young mathematicians aged ten or eleven.

Printing certificates and problems

We are aware that schools may limit the number of pages that pupils print. We have put in a 'Print' option for their certificate but only a 'Save As' for the print out of the problems that they have attempted.

Primary Mathematics Challenge

The problems provided here are taken from some of the Primary Mathematics Challenge papers. This is an annual challenge for school pupils aged ten or eleven and is run by The Mathematical Association. Schools register for the PMC in September or October of each year. The PMC is not available directly to parents.

Comments on these problems can be sent to challenge@m-a.org.uk.
