Organisation

     The Association exists to bring about improvements in the teaching of mathematics and its applications, and to provide a means of communication among students and teachers of mathematics. Its work is carried out through its Council and committees.

Seven committees are established by the Rules of the Association:

  Branches Committee,
  Conferences Committee,
  Editorial Board,
  Professional Development Committee,
  Publications Committee,
  Publicity and Membership Committee,
  Teaching Committee.

The Council has the power to establish other committees.

The Council produces an Annual Report on the work of the Association.

 


Council

The Council manages the Association; its members are the trustees of the charity. It is governed by the Rules of the Association; and it determines the Regulations of the Association.

NOMINATIONS FOR COUNCIL 2009

Under rules adopted in 2001, elections are held each year for the offices of Chair of Council, MA Secretary and MA Treasurer and for Members of Council without Office. The current officers are: -

Chair of CouncilBarry Lewis, eligible to stand for re-election.

MA SecretaryBill Richardson, eligible to stand for re-election.

MA TreasurerPaul Harris, eligible to stand for re-election.

Nominations are invited for any of the above offices, for the Chair of Teaching Committee and for two Members without Office.

Members may nominate others or may put their own names forward.

Nominations in writing should be accompanied by written confirmation of the candidate’s willingness to stand and a short (100-200 word) biography. These should be addressed to:

and should arrive no later than 31st December 2008.

In the event of there being more nominations than vacancies for any position(s) on Council, arrangements will be made for the appropriate form of voting. Where necessary, ballot forms will be circulated with the next issue of MA News (February 2009).
