Number 72 Summer 2020 FRAMLINGHAM CASTLE 1 PI COIN This year the Solomon Islands issued a 1-ounce silver coin with a face value of SI$3.14 (The Solomon Islands dollar has parity with the Australian dollar). On the reverse it features three mathematicians, Ludoph Van Cuelen, William Oughtred and Archimedes. Each of these have featured in previous editions of SYMmetry plus. Only 5000 (or 3141, or 10 000 – sources differ) pieces have been minted and its diameter is 38.81 mm. The Solomon Islands consist of six major islands and over 900 small ones, situated to the north-west of Australia. It became independent in 1978 and is a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II (who features on the obverse) as its queen.
