The magic of mathematics

In June 2009 at the Science Museum in London Professor Ian Stewart received the Christopher Zeeman medal for public engagement in mathematics. Now Professor Sir Christopher Zeeman is an ex President of the Mathematical Association and it is fitting that the contribution that mathematicians make in raising and stimulating interest in mathematics should be acknowledged in this way. It is the first medal specifically given to a mathematician in the UK for promoting maths to the public and celebrates the scope, power and sheer joy of mathematics.
