Top universities face cuts in research funding

Top universities including Imperial College London, University College London and Cambridge face substantial cuts this year after losing out in the allocation of £1.6bn of research funding.

Budgets for every university in England are revealed, along with new evidence of a dramatic decline in research in traditional science and language subjects as academia shifts its focus to areas such as sports science and media studies.
