The new SLEs will work with schools in the exciting task of addressing the challenge of raising understanding of and performance in mathematics through enhanced professional learning.
Applicants will have to demonstrate a track record of outstanding leadership and outstanding achievements in mathematics over the last two years. They must be middle or senior leaders within their own school (this definition is flexible and is entirely dependent on the nature of the host school).
If you are applying to become an SLE and you have been significantly involved in NCETM activities and programmes during the last two years in a way that they can acknowledge, they may be able to provide a letter of support for your application. Please make any request via email@example.com.
In the meantime, you may be interested to look at two case studies from the NCETM that explore the emerging work of teaching schools and their 'SLEs'. These studies address supporting either primary mathematics or secondary mathematics.
The SLE programme is a very exciting initiative. The NCETM will engage fully with the teaching schools programme and the team of mathematics SLEs that will be designated. All details about the SLE application process can be found on the National College website. The current round of applications closes on 25 November 2011.
