1 Registration
The PC can be taken any time during the month of November.
Registration for the November PMC takes place from September.
Please try to register by the end of September. We mail
out in October and ensure that your packs arrive by
half term, so that you have the full month of November
to take the challenge.
It is not possible to register by phone. Registration
has to be done by schools - parents may not register
their children for the PMC. Registration Forms are available
on the PMC fliers. A copy can be printed off from the
PMC webpage.
Completed Registration Forms will be accepted until
late November. But the MA cannot guarantee delivery
on forms received after 15th November. In any event,
Tally Sheets must be returned to the PMC office by the
required date in early December.
We would prefer orders to be sent by post, and not
by fax. However orders placed on or after 15th November
can be faxed to us on 0116 212 2835.
2 Not received your order?
If you have not received your PMC packs by the beginning
of November please send us an email clearly giving your
school name and postcode ( pmc@m-a.org.uk ). We will
respond, letting you know if/when we posted your PMC
packs. In the rare cases in which packs get lost in
the post, we will endeavour to supply more packs in
time for your pupils to take the challenge. Please be
patient if there is a strike in the postal service!
WE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR PACKS LOST IN TRANSIT.
ONCE YOU KNOW THE PACK IS LOST THE SCHOOL MUST INFORM
ROYAL MAIL. THIS WILL ALLOW US TO MAKE A CLAIM FOR THE
MISSING PACKS. ROYAL MAIL DOES NOT ALLOW CLAIMS TO BE
MADE UNTIL AFTER 15 DAYS AFTER EXPECTED DELIVERY DATE.
3 PMC claims against Royal Mail (RM) Service
If a school contacts the PMC Office to say they have
not received their order, we check our systems to ensure
order has been processed and dispatched.
A replacement order will be sent. If near or during
November, order sent out as quickly as possible but
if claim is made in September/October, we ask school
to wait to allow RM extra time to deliver.
RM insists on a 15-day wait from posting date before
an item is considered 'lost' (longer period if abroad)
so PMC Office unable to claim before the expiry of this
period.
PMC Office completes and returns the Royal Mail Claim
Form.
RM contacts the school for confirmation that item has
not been received. The school MUST respond to RM request
otherwise RM will not compensate loss to PMC Office.
Schools are asked that if the first order is eventually
delivered, then it be returned to PMC Office.
4 Small orders
PMC packs are available in packs of ten papers (which
include instructions, certificates, mark scheme, Answers
and Notes). We can only supply complete packs - we do
not sell single papers. Invoices We will send out an
invoice if you wish. Payment can be made by cheque,
BACS or credit card.
5 VAT
VAT may be claimed by schools on the PMC papers and
the handling charge. Please see the invoices for details.
6 Certificates
It is the intention that teachers decide how the certificates
be awarded. One gold, two silver and three bronze certificates
are provided in each pack, and a photocopiable 'Took
the Challenge' certificate is provided for everyone
else! Decisions are therefore 'in-school'. If teachers
wish, they can look at the mark distribution from previous
years to assist, but the spirit of the PMC is that,
in each school, there will be a number of gold, silver
and bronze pupils who deserve certificates!
Extra copies of certificates may be ordered from the
PMC Office at a cost of 50p each. A stamped self-addressed
A5 envelope is required.
7 Results deadline
The deadline for Tally Sheets and Feedback Forms is
in the first week of December - the actual date is provided
in the Instructions that go out with the PMC packs.
Results received after this date may well result in
high-scoring pupils not being invited to take the PMC
Finals the following February.
8 PMC FINALS
The Finals take place on the Wednesday of the first
full week in February - see the Instructions for the
date. Pupils who score 27 or more are not automatically
invited to take the PMC Finals in February. The invitations
depend on how many pupils score 27, 28, 29 and 30.
The PMC is organised through schools. Invitations to
take the Finals are sent to the school. The papers are
marked by a computer at the University of Leeds. Results
are available by the end of the spring term and main
details of results are also posted on the PMC webpage.
The MA handles enquiries with the school and not directly
with parents. If a parent has a query, he/she should
contact the school and seek an answer to their question.
The MA cannot enter into correspondence directly with
parents.
